PERFECT COMPETITION: An ideal market structure characterized by a large number of small firms, identical products sold by all firms, freedom of entry into and exit out of the industry, and perfect knowledge of prices and technology. This is one of four basic market structures. The other three are monopoly, oligopoly, and monopolistic competition. Perfect competition is an idealized market structure that's not observed in the real world. While unrealistic, it does provide an excellent benchmark that can be used to analyze real world market structures. In particular, perfect competition efficiently allocates resources.

INTERCEPT, GOVERNMENT PURCHASES LINE: The intercept of the government purchases line indicates autonomous government purchases, government purchases that do not depend on the level of income or production. This can be thought of as government purchases that the government sector undertakes regardless of the state of the economy. Autonomous government purchases are affected by the government purchases determinants, which cause a change in the intercept and a shift of the government purchases line.

EXPORTS

Goods and services produced by the domestic economy and purchased by the foreign sector. Exports are goods sold to other countries. Exports are the counter to imports--goods produced by the foreign sector and purchased by domestic economy. Exports, together with imports, are the essence of foreign trade--goods and services that are traded among the citizens of different nations. Exports and imports are frequently combined into a single term, net exports (exports minus imports).
