KITCHIN CYCLE: A cycle of economic activity lasting between 3 and 5 years that acquired the name of the first economist to study it, Joseph Kitchin. The Kitchin cycle is attributed to investment in inventories (especially for consumer goods). It is the one that is commonly at work when people are concerned with business-cycle contractions. This is also one of four separate cycles of macroeconomic activity that have been documented or hypothesized. The other three are Juglar cycle, Kuznets cycle, and Kondratieff cycle.

- A graph of total utility is achieved much like many other graphs in economics, by plotting a set of numbers.
- Let's set the stage.
- The axes at the right present the plotting area.
- The horizontal axis measures quantity, the number of hours spent at the beach. This ranges from 0 to 8.
- The vertical axis measures total utility, in utils, ranging from 0 to 40.
- The points plotted come from an infinite number of points that capture the relation between total utility and time at the beach.

ENTREPRENEURIAL BEHAVIOR A preference for changing the status quo over maintaining it based on relatively greater satisfaction generated by novel information over redundant information. Entrepreneurial behavior underlies the inclination to undertake invention and innovation, including the creation of something new as well as the distribution and adoption of the new throughout society. It is the behavior most likely exhibited by entrepreneurship. An alternative is managerial behavior, which is a preference for maintaining the status quo over changing it.
