GOVERNMENT INTERVENTION: Actions on the part of government that affect economic activity, resource allocation, and especially the voluntary decisions made through normal market exchanges. Government, by its very nature, is designed to intervene in voluntary market activity. Some of the more common types of government intervention includes taxes, price controls, assorted regulations, and control over government spending. ECONOMIC UNION: An agreement among two or more nations to eliminate trade barriers with each other, to adopt a common trade policy with other nations, to allow free movement of resources among the countries, and to adopt common monetary policy or fiscal policy. This is considered the fourth of four levels of integration among nations.

MARGINAL REVENUE PRODUCT AND FACTOR DEMAND

A perfectly competitive firm's factor demand curve is that negatively-sloped portion of its marginal revenue product curve. A perfectly competitive firm maximizes profit by hiring the quantity of input that equates factor price and marginal revenue product. As such, the firm moves along its negatively-sloped marginal revenue product curve in response to changing factor prices.
