PREFERRED STOCK: The ownership shares in a corporation that have legal claim to the corporation's assets. Stock is usually dividend into two types, common stock and preferred stock. Preferred stock has first claim to the corporations net assets, and common stock comes in second. However, if a corporation has no preferred stock, the common stock has exclusive claim. Most stocks are negotiable and are traded one on a stock market.

ZERO GROWTH: A growth rate (usually in terms of population) that is equal to zero. In other words, this is no change from one year to the next. This goal has been proposed by those who content that population growth is placing excessive pressure on the planet's availability of limited resources and its ability to assimilate pollution. BALANCE OF TRADE The difference between the value of goods and services exported out of a country and the value of goods and services imported into the country. The balance of trade is the official term for net exports that makes up the balance of payments. The balance of trade can be a "favorable" surplus (exports exceed imports) or an "unfavorable" deficit (imports exceed exports). The official balance of trade is separated into the balance of merchandise trade for tangible goods and the balance of services.
