INTERCEPT, CONSUMPTION LINE: The intercept of the consumption line indicates autonomous consumption, consumption that does not depend on the level of income or production. This can be thought of as the baseline level of consumption that would be undertaken if income falls to zero. Autonomous consumption is affected by the consumption expenditures determinants, which cause a change in the intercept and a shift of the consumption line. The value of the intercept of the saving line is the negative of the value of the intercept of the saving line.

MULTILATERAL: An action, often used in terms of an international trade agreement, that's extended to more than two parties. As such, a multilateral trade agreement is between several countries. For example, the United States might enter into a multilateral agreement with every country in North and South America that reduces trade barriers on the exports and imports of food products. The General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade is one of the more well known examples of a multilateral trade agreement.

KINKED-DEMAND CURVE

A demand curve with two distinct segments which have different elasticities that join to form a corner or kink. The primary use of the kinked-demand curve is to explain price rigidity in oligopoly. The two segments are: (1) a relatively more elastic segment for price increases and (2) a relatively less elastic segment for price decreases. The relative elasticities of these two segments is based on the interdependent decision-making of oligopolistic firms.
