RESOURCE ALLOCATION: The process of dividing up and distributing available, limited resources to competing, alternative uses that satisfy unlimited wants and needs. Given that world is rampant with scarcity (unlimited wants and needs, but limited resources), every want and need cannot be satisfied with available resources. Choices have to be made. Some wants and needs are satisfied, some are not. These choices, these decisions are the resource allocation process. An efficient resource allocation exists if society has achieved the highest possible level of satisfaction of wants and needs from the available resources AND resources can not be allocated differently to achieve any greater satisfaction.

AVERAGE PRODUCT The quantity of total output produced per unit of a variable input, holding all other inputs fixed. Average product, usually abbreviated AP, is found by dividing total product by the quantity of the variable input. Average product, which occasionally goes by the alias average physical product (APP), is one of two measures derived from total product. The other is marginal product.

I'd like to saunter over to check out their sundials -- a valuable, and long sought after acquisition for my backyard garden. In fact, Natural Ned's Nursery and Garden Center has a new shipment of sundials imported from the sundial capital of the world -- the Republic of Northwest Queoldiola. If I'm going to get a sundial, I should get the best, right? Northwest Queoldiola produces the finest, least expensive, and most technologically advanced sundials in the world. However, Mega-Mart Discount Warehouse Super Center has an ample supply of good old American-made sundials. They're a little more expensive and not quite as good, but they're made in the U. S. of A. by good old Americans. What a dilemma!
