SELF-CORRECTION, RECESSIONARY GAP: The automatic process through which the aggregate market achieves long-run equilibrium by eliminating a recessionary gap created by short-run equilibrium. With a recessionary gap short-run equilibrium real production is less than full-employment real production, meaning resource markets have surpluses, and in particular labor is unemployed. Self-correction is the process in which these temporary imbalances are eliminated through flexible prices as the aggregate market achieves long-run equilibrium. The key to this process is shifts of the short-run aggregate supply curve caused by changes in wages and other resource prices. The long-run result is lower wages and an increase in short-run aggregate supply.

KEYNESIAN MODEL

A macroeconomic model based on the principles of Keynesian economics that is used to identify the equilibrium level of, and analyze disruptions to, aggregate production and income. This model identifies equilibrium aggregate production and income as the intersection of the aggregate expenditures line and the 45-degree line. The Keynesian model comes in three basic variations designated by the number of macroeconomic sectors included--two-sector, three-sector, and four sector. The Keynesian model is also commonly presented in the form of injections and leakages in addition to the standard aggregate expenditures format. This model is used to analyze several important topics and issues, including multipliers, business cycles, fiscal policy, and monetary policy.

The Wide, Wide World Of FOREIGN TRADE

Two blocks directly south of the Mega-Mart Discount Emporium we'll find that Natural Ned's Nursery and Garden Center is having a grand opening celebration. I'd like to saunter over to check out their sundials -- a valuable, and long sought after acquisition for my backyard garden. In fact, Natural Ned's Nursery and Garden Center has a new shipment of sundials imported from the sundial capital of the world -- the Republic of Northwest Queoldiola. If I'm going to get a sundial, I should get the best, right? Northwest Queoldiola produces the finest, least expensive, and most technologically advanced sundials in the world. However, Mega-Mart Discount Warehouse Super Center has an ample supply of good old American-made sundials. They're a little more expensive and not quite as good, but they're made in the U. S. of A. by good old Americans. What a dilemma!
